YIannis Georgiou (piano)
Cypriot pianist Yiannis Georgiou was born in London and spent his childhood
in Cyprus and England. He received his early music training at the Royal
College of Music Junior Department. He studied at Trinity College of Music
in London, with Alexander Ardakov and John Bingham. During his studies, he
received numerous competition prizes for his playing and he graduated with
the DipTCL Performer's Diploma.
His fascination for the Russian piano school and his love for Russian music
led him to continue his studies in Moscow, at the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire,
initially with Professor Valery Kastelsky, a student of Heinrich Neuhaus,
and finally with Pavel Nersessian, whose piano studio is regarded as one of
the most interesting and prolific in the world. He graduated with the
Aspirant Diploma. Georgiou is the only Cypriot Pianist to have received
this award. He has performed extensively as a soloist in Europe, mainly in
the UK, but also in Greece and Cyprus. His debut CD with works by Beethoven,
Schumann and Debussy received excellent critical reviews and has been
repeatedly broadcast on British radio. Yiannis Georgiou has been living in
Cyprus since 2004.
