Music education opens doors that help children pass from school into the
world around them ? a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and
human involvement
With dedication to the flourishing of cultural life in Cyprus and the
cultural education of its youth, the Pharos Arts Foundation is proud to
announce the completion of the Fourth Pharos Music Education Prize.
Inaugurated in 2007, the annual Pharos Music Education Prize is supported by
the Pharos Arts Foundation and developed with the collaboration of the
Ministry of Education and Culture. The Prize involves the participation of
students from a number of secondary schools all over Cyprus and comprises an
assortment of questions on musical topics, such as aural tests, music
history and morphology, as well as music analysis of specific works that
were previously presented during the Foundation?s educational activities.
The curriculum of the Fourth Pharos Music Education Prize included questions
on works by Purcell, Haydn, Schoenberg and Messiaen. The Pharos Arts
Foundation will award a prize of Euro 1700 to be shared between the top
three winners as well as their schools' music departments.
The winners of the Fourth Annual Pharos Music-Education Prize are:
First prize: Sevastiana Nourou from Xenion High School
Second prize: Louiza Patsia from Verginas Lyceum
Third Prize: Eleni Georgiou from Ag. Georgios Lyceum, Empas
The award ceremony, which will take place in the morning of Friday 15
January 2010, at Pallas Theatre, 9.00am-10.00am and will be open to the
media and public, will include a short concert by the three prize winners as
well as other participants of the competition.
