Vahan MARDIROSSIAN was born in Yerevan, Armenia.
Since 1993, he has been living in France,where he studied at the Paris
Conservatoire with Jacques Rouvier , and graduated with distinction after being
awarded the First Prize for piano, the chamber music Prize, and the
Conservatoire's highest diploma, enabling him to go on to postgraduate studies.
Since his début as a pianist, he has regularly been invited to appear with
orchestras including the Orchestre National de France, the Armenian Philharmonic
Orchestra, the Portugal Symphonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Cannes, Orchestre
National de Pays de la Loire, the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, the Paris
International Orchestra, the Bienne Symphonic Orchestra and many more. Vahan has
worked under the baton of such a distinguished conductors as K.Masur,
Y.Ahronovitch, Y.Sado, J.Valcuha, S.Sanderling, P.Bender. He has performed
recitals throughout Europe, America and Asia.
Among Vahan Mardirossian’s solo recordings, you will find music by Bach, Händel,
Schubert, Brahms, Liszt, Tanguy, Lenot, Zavaro. The recordings have been highly
acclaimed by the critics and are regularly broadcast in Europe and America.One
of his latest cd's “Armenia”, (cd entirely devoted to Armenian classical music
including two of his own compositions) received the “Choc” of the year 2007
award by the “le Monde de la Musique” Magazine.
Vahan Mardirossian has been in close collaboration with the composer Eric
Tanguy, who dedicated his second Piano Sonata to Vahan Mardirossian, he also
worked with Mstislav Rostropovich - on the first performance of Eric Tanguy's
Cello Concerto No.2, with Henri Dutilleux on his Piano Sonata and Krzysztof
Penderecki on his sextet.
Vahan Mardirossian is a keen chamber musician, his partners in chamber music
include N.Baldeyrou, R.Capuçon, G.Capuçon, H.N.Chang, A.Chaushian, S-M.Degand,
H.Demarquette, D.Erlih, T.Escaich, R.Galliano, I.Gitlis, D.Grimal, P.Muller,
A.Noras, J-M.Phillips-Varjabedian, X.Phillips, J.Rachlin, Quartets Ysaïe and
Rosamonde...
Vahan Mardirossian is simultaneously leading a promising career as a conductor.
At the age of 15, he was appointed the Principal Conductor and the Musical
Director of the Youth Chamber Orchestra by the Youth Cultural Center of Armenia.
More recently Vahan Mardirossian had been invited by Kurt Masur to the
Conducting Seminar in New York, where he conducted the Manhattan School
Orchestra. Vahan Mardirossian is also the founder of the “Maestria” Chamber
Orchestra, with whom he has performed in the most prestigious Concert Halls in
France including the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris and the Halle aux
Grains in Toulous. 2008-2009 “Maestria” was in residence in “Invalides” in
Paris.
Vahan Mardirossian also regularly invited to conduct the Armenian Philharmonic
Orchestra, the “Amalgames” Orchestra– composed of the finest musicians from the
Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra and the SWR Baden-Baden and Freiburg Symphony
Orchestra, the Cannes - Province Côte d’Azur Orchestra and the Orchestra of the
Opera of Toulon. He has conducted renowned soloist such as A.Markov, X.Phillips,
J-M.Phillips-Varjabedian, N.Dautricourt, M.Coppey… His repertory covers a large
time span ranging from the baroque period to nowadays.
Coming season Vahan Mardirossian will make his conducting début with the Caen
Symphony Orchestra with Jean-Marc Phillips-Varjabedian as a soloist. And he will
also make his début as a conductor in Russia, in a tour with Novosibirsk Chamber
Orchestra and the pianist Elena Rozanova.
